The astral plane is a realm of souls and spirits, where people cross to once they die. It consists of a Realm of Light, a Realm of Darkness, and a purgatory. Those who find their way into the Realm of Light after death are often referred to as finding peace while those who are doomed to the Realm of Darkness are said to be banished into Oblivion. Souls that generally have unfinished business exist in the constant nothingness of purgatory where they can roam earth yet have no effect on it, doomed to be forever invisible.

The Realm of Light is the home of the angels while the Realm of Darkness is the home of the demons. Both sides are locked in an eternal war where they both seek to see the other completely destroyed.

Time in the astral plane does not function like earth. What can feel like a few minutes in the astral plane can amount to hours in the living realm. Because of this, possessed who cross over must be ever vigilant about how much time they spend crossed over.
